Number Line

Writing numbers down on a Number Line makes it easy to tell
which numbers are greater or lesser

A number on the left is less than a number on the right.

Examples:

  • v is less than viii
  • −ane is less than 1
  • −viii is less than −5

A number on the correct is greater than a number on the left.

Examples:

  • 8 is greater than 5
  • 1 is greater than −1
  • −5 is greater than −8

  • John borrowed $3 to pay for his lunch
  • Virginia borrowed $v to pay for her lunch
  • Alex had enough money for lunch and has $3 left over

Place these people on the number line to discover who is poorest and who is richest.

Attributable coin is negative
Having coin is positive

So John has "3", Virginia has "5" and Alex has "+3"
